We’ve all seen articles discussing the gambling habits of famous celebrities and other notable figures. Hollywood actors and wealthy athletes seem to prefer the blackjack and poker tables, with the occasional sports bet thrown in. But actors and athletes aren’t the only ones who gamble… What about superheroes? What games might the Avengers be drawn to at the casino webplay? We decided to break it down and see what might intrigue these heroes enough to put money on the line:
Baccarat is a high stakes game and is known for being frequented by high rollers who lay down thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars down on a single bet. Casinos often have special baccarat rooms that are separate from the main gambling floor to provide extra privacy and security for players, which is good for our “big, green guy.” Although the traditional game of baccarat is a game of pure chance and not skill, the seclusion from prying eyes allows The Hulk to breathe easier as he throws down his bets. Bruce Banner is known for controlling his enormous temper the majority of the time, but it wouldn’t hurt to make sure he can’t cause too much damage if things get out of hand.
Tony Stark – Iron Man
Defining characteristics: charismatic, headstrong, resourceful, and adaptable. Extremely arrogant and self-centered.
Roulette and Tony Stark were made for each other. An exciting game of luck and chance, roulette involves placing bets on single numbers, a group of numbers, the colors red or black, or whether a number will be odd or even. The roulette table is often crowded with spectators, and the self-centered Iron Man thrives in front of a crowd. Stark’s seemingly boundless energy and his unfailing confidence makes him a perfect match for this flashy, thrilling table game, since he possesses the arrogance to believe that the odds are always in his favor and the charisma to make everyone else believe it too.
Natasha Romanoff – Black Widow
Defining characteristics: logical, guarded, independent, and adventurous. Can be detached and critical.
While Hawkeye could excel at this popular game also, Black Widow is the one who takes home all the money. In The Avengers, Romanoff handles the charismatic and cunning Loki with ease, planning all the steps and exposing just the right amount of (fake) vulnerability to encourage him to show his hand. She is extremely guarded and detached, but is critical of those around her and perceptive enough to spot facades and weaknesses and advance on them. So, naturally poker is her game – her cards remain hidden until the hand is over, she can spot a ruse easily, and her poker face is the stuff of legend. Besides, only playing against the dealer? Having just one opponent wouldn’t be any fun.
Clint Barton – Hawkeye
Defining characteristics: flexible, perceptive, honest, and precise. Guarded and blunt.
The most widely played casino game, blackjack is the perfect table for Clint Barton. His precision and perceptiveness would be an asset in this game, since the goal is to reach 21 and beat only one adversary: the dealer. He is guarded enough to keep a cool façade, but his honesty and tendency to be blunt may trip him up when it comes to the poker face. Blackjack is quick, straightforward, and when the right strategy is employed, the target is easily hit for the archer.
Steve Rogers – Captain America
Defining characteristics: conservative, warm-hearted, loyal and responsible. Reserved and conventional.
Game: Sports bet
Are you kidding? Steve Rogers at a blackjack table?! No way. But Captain America started as an underdog – a small, weak man with a big heart and a fierce passion to do the right thing. Sports bets would be Rogers’s dream. He might lose more money than he earns, but you can bet that the underdog in any fight, match, or game would have the Captain’s support. If he wins any money, great. But the real joy for Rogers comes from rooting for the fighter who everyone thought would lose, the team that everyone thought would give in, and the players who had the passion to win despite the odds.
